Doerksen Family Recipes: Scrumptious Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Our family loves to gather in the heart of the home to prepare and enjoy a home cooked meal together. Over the years, we’ve developed quite a collection of recipes. Since launching our line of grass fed beef, to help inspire our home cooks and devoted customers, we’ve decided to share our most popular family recipes.

TODAY’S FEATURE: SCRUMPTIOUS SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS

There’s nothing better than cooking for the family using all natural ingredients! Our meatballs are full of flavour and so simple to make. We recommend preparing a large batch of meatballs at one time, freezing them in smaller portions, and conveniently pulling them out on busy weeknights.

Our Scrumptious Sweet and Sour Meatballs are also great for family parties and Sunday suppers. Pair them with rice or noodles, and you’re all set!

INGREDIENTS

 Meatballs: 

  • 2 lbs grass fed ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 egg

Sweet and Sour Sauce:

  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tbsp soya sauce
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • ½ cup onion
  • 1 cup chopped peppers (red, green)

INSTRUCTIONS

Meatballs: Mix all ingredients by hand in a large bowl until all ingredients are evenly mixed. Form into balls, brown in a pan, or bake until browned and cooked through at 350C. Cook on a parchment covered baking sheet.

Sweet and Sour Sauce: Boil sugar, flour, soya sauce, vinegar and water for 10 minutes. Add peppers and meatballs, and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

Optional Add Ins: For extra colour and flavour, add drained pineapple chunks or orange segments.
