Our 10 Best Grilling Tips for Summer

Our 10 Best Grilling Tips for Summer

There are few things we enjoy more than getting everyone together after a long day to enjoy a meal together as a family. During the summer months, we take every opportunity to soak up the summer sun, while barbecuing juicy cuts of beef on the grill!

If you’re looking to elevate your grilling skills this season, you’re in luck! Take a moment to read through our top barbecue tips now:

1. Build Your Marinade

Start with the basics: acid (vinegar or lemon juice), oil (or other fat), spices and herbs. A good rule of thumb is a 1:3 ratio of acidity to oil. The acidity works to tenderize your meat, while the oil provides moisture.

2. Break Dry Seasonings into Four Groups

Salts and sugars, pepper, transition spices, and signature flavours. To prevent sugar caramelization, less sugar should be added to food with longer cooking times.

3. Season Gently

When applying rubs, delicacy is key. You want to be careful not to damage the meat fibres or textures. Remember, the goal is to enhance natural flavours, not overpower them.

4. Preheat Your Grill

It may seem obvious, but this well-known secret to successful grilling is often forgotten! In order to achieve a flavourful sear on your meat, preheat your grill for 10-15 minutes before your food hits the surface.

5. Direct vs. Indirect Heat

If food takes less than 20 minutes to cook, we recommend using direct heat. Longer? Use indirect heat.

6. Grilled Veggies

Prevent your vegetables from sticking and drying out, by coating them with a light layer of olive oil before grilling.

7. Applying BBQ Sauce

Once meat is cooked to your liking, apply your barbecue sauce. You want to apply it just minutes before you’re done cooking. Long enough to heat the sauce, but not so long that it burns off.

8. Grill Outside the Box!

Foods such as cabbage, beets, apples, and broccoli taste delicious when grilled. Don’t be afraid to get creative!

9. Lid Up or Down?

Grilling with the lid up is great for crisping and searing. Closing the lid creates a convection oven effect, which can help the interior of your food to cook through.

10. Let It Rest

We know that by the time your food is cooked, your mouth is going to be watering, but if you want juicy, perfect meat give it time to rest! Resting allows the juices to redistribute through the meat. Perfection in every bite.
